The California sea lions that use the Pier 39 haul‐out site may be feeding on Pacific herring (Clupea harengus), northern anchovy, and other prey in the waters of San Francisco Bay (Caltrans, a). In addition to the Pier 39 haul‐out, California sea lions haul out on buoys and similar structures throughout San Francisco Bay. The Bering Sea (Russian: Бе́рингово мо́ре, tr. Béringovo móre) is a marginal sea of the Pacific forms, along with the Bering Strait, the divide between the two largest landmasses on Earth: Eurasia and The Americas.

It comprises a deep water basin, which then rises through a narrow slope into the shallower water above the continental nates: 58°0′N °0′W / °N. Ocean currents, water masses, and seasonal sea ice formation determine linkages among and barriers between the biotas of the Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas.

The Arctic Ocean occupies a roughly circular basin and covers an area of ab, km 2 (5, sq mi), almost the size of Antarctica. The coastline is 45, km (28, mi) long.

It is the only ocean smaller than Russia, which has a land area of 16, km 2 (6, sq mi). It is surrounded by the land masses of Eurasia, North America, Greenland, and by several islands. The book examines the Bering Sea ecosystem's dynamics and the relationship between man and the ecosystem, in order to identify potential reasons for the population fluctuations as well as identify ways the Sea's living resources can be better managed by government.

Frequent storms in the Gulf of Alaska and the Bering, Chukchi, and Beaufort Seas already affect the coasts during much of the year.

Alaska’s coastlines, many of which are low in elevation, are increasingly threatened by a combination of the loss of their protective sea ice buffer, increasing storm activity, and thawing coastal permafrost. Key regions in this group include: Bay of Bengal, Beaufort Sea, Black Sea, Central Arctic Ocean, East Siberian Sea, Gulf of Thailand, Humboldt Current, Kara Sea, Laptev Sea, North Australia Shelf, Northern Bering-Chukchi Sea, Oyashio Current, Red Sea, Sea of Japan–East Sea, Sea of Okhotsk, Somali Coastal Current, South China Sea, and West Cited by: 8.

Whaling started in the first few centuries A.D. by the Japanese, and between about and A.D. by the Norwegians and by the Basque people living on the north coast of France and Spain.

The Dutch, British and Americans started in the 17th century. All of this early whaling was done from small boats using hand-thrown harpoons. Bryde’s whales can be recognized at sea by the three distinct ridges on the top of the head.

They are seen throughout tropical and warm temperate waters of °C or warmer year round. They not only feed mainly on pelagic schooling fishes such as pilchard, anchovy, sardine, mackerel, herring, and others but also on crustaceans. As ice melts, whales migrate to the Chukchi Sea. In the Sea of Okhotsk, bowhead whales stay.
